Saturdays in Budapest’s Historic District XIII

Join us for a spring 2023 writers’ workshop!

The Budapest Writers’ Lab is an occasional writers’ workshop that focuses on the craft and practice of fiction and narrative non-fiction.

Over the six-week workshop, you will have ample opportunity to submit short stories, novel excerpts, flash fiction, or personal essays for a roundtable discussion and informed, constructive critique.

In addition to your own work, assigned prompts will allow you to practice aspects of craft like narrative voice, dialogue, description, character creation, and structure. When time allows, we will analyze classic and contemporary short stories, reading them as writers, to examine what makes them work.

The workshop experience is an immersive and open, non-judgmental conversation, making the sessions useful for both beginners and published writers alike. The groups tend to be small, usually eight or fewer, so it can be both intimate and intense. Though publication is by no means stressed, participants have gone on to sign with literary agencies or publish short stories and books.

There is no application process, but if you are new, I will want to have some back and forth over email or meet in person to be sure you are a good fit for the workshop.
